Mr Cheong Chee Hoo has played a significant role in contributing to almost every radar system that DSO National Laboratories (DSO) has developed for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
In his 13 years with DSO, Chee Hoo has participated in the development of a range of advanced radar technologies and applications. He has also forged collaborations with overseas partners and established himself internationally, as an authority in radar systems.
His continuous pursuit of innovation, new technologies and novel concepts has resulted in the development of advanced radar systems that have helped to transform the surveillance capabilities of the SAF.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to advanced radar systems, Mr Cheong Chee Hoo is awarded the Defence Technology Prize 2006 Individual (R&D) Award.
More about Cheong Chee Hoo’s contributions
Chee Hoo is an outstanding radar systems engineer with a broad range of experience covering radar systems, design, signal processing, radio frequency, antennas and system integration.
Due to the sensitive nature of his work, many of his contributions are classified. A more open piece of work that can be used to illustrate Chee Hoo’s contributions is the “Through Wall” Motion Detection (TWMD) Radar.
Departing from conventional design, Chee Hoo’s design is simpler, yet of superior performance. The TWMD can transmit ultra wideband electromagnetic energy to penetrate through a wall to locate objects and sense their movements. Such a technology can support applications in counter terrorism and search and rescue operations in collapsed buildings. |
