To be a wellspring of technological knowledge,
a fountain of innovation and an inspiration to
the R&D community in Singapore. |
 |
To develop technologies and solutions that can
provide technological surprises to sharpen the
cutting edge of Singapores national security. |
DSO is a strategic and indispensable national resource
and our role as a National Laboratory is multi-faceted.
Our research and development activities are steered
towards three broad thrusts:
 |
Technology plays a crucial role
in multiplying the capabilities of the Singapore
Armed Forces (SAF) and will play an important
enabling role in the transformation of the SAF
into a third-generation (3G) fighting force. A
network-enabled and knowledge-based SAF will greatly
increase its combat power through increased battlefield
awareness, interoperability and synchronisation
among its elements, thus improving effectiveness
and survivability, as well as enhancing operational
speed and response.
Our approach is to strengthen current capabilities
and at the same time, develop new ones to support
the transformation effort, including the development
of novel solutions for the SAF.
|
 |
As a national R&D laboratory,
DSO is committed as a leader in the local science
and technology community, to add to Singapore's
strength by promoting defence science and growing
Singapore's defence R&D talents. We continually
sharpen ourselves to give the vital edge that
Singapore needs in its defence and national security
by continuously reviewing scientific advances
and emerging technologies around the globe. From
this, we identify and seed the critical enabling
technologies for the future battlefield.

 |
The line between defence and homeland
security has blurred. The breadth of DSOs
expertise stands us in good stead to explore dual-use
applications for our technologies and solutions
to meet Singapores national security requirements.
Today, some of the solutions and many of the technology
bricks that DSO is developing to meet the needs
of the SAF can be adapted or reconfigured to meet
the needs of other dimensions of our national
security such as low intensity conflicts, asymmetric
warfare and counter-terrorism. Our expertise that
is particularly relevant include chem-bio defence,
chem-medical countermeasures, sensors, decision
support, cyber-security, intelligence, surety
and secured communications. |
