Growth & Development

At DSO, we embrace a culture of continuous learning and growth. Our Learning and Development programmes provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills so that you can contribute effectively as a valuable member of our R&D team. In addition, our Development and Performance System (DPS) helps you grow in your current job and prepares you for future responsibilities in your chosen career paths.

Development and Performance System (DPS)

Our DPS is designed to enhance your performance and fulfill your potential in a challenging career at DSO. Using the DPS, you and your supervisor will create a roadmap of how you should progress in your work. You will jointly set work targets, chart learning and development plans. You will also attend regular feedback sessions with your supervisor who will help you develop plans to enhance your competencies, skills and knowledge.

Learning and Development
Investment in personal training and development programmes is one of DSO's top priorities to ensure continuous advancement of our staff. The DSO Learning and Growth framework comprises 5 key pillars, namely, new hires induction process, personal development training, professional training, project management training, and leadership development. Each pillar caters for the various stages of every staff's career in DSO, to hone his/her skills and to plan for career development.

This comprehensive approach entails a structured interactive induction process, job rotation, training courses, technical seminars, international conferences overseas or joint projects with other renowned R&D establishments. In addition, staff can also apply for 'Leave for Special Assignment', where staff can choose to work in another research organisation, university or company both local and overseas for a period of time to acquire new capabilities or sharpen existing capabilities.

Some of our research staff hold adjunct teaching appointments at the universities where they contribute to fostering aspiring scientists and engineers. In addition, these appointments enable our staff to leverage on the universities’ strength in basic research to augment the applied R&D work at DSO.

DSO In-service Scholarship / Sponsorship
The DSO In-service Scholarship was introduced in 1997 to encourage our staff to constantly enrich and upgrade their knowledge and skills, with the long-term objective of developing a pool of scientific and management talents to meet the future challenges of DSO.

Every year, DSO sends aspiring and committed staff who have completed at least one year of service to renowned universities locally and overseas. These
scholarships, which are applicable to full-time and part-time studies, are offered with flexible terms to meet our staff's needs.
