Knowledge Seeking, Creation and Sharing
Our knowledge base is an asset we want to
develop and exploit to our advantage. We will
seek, create, share and build upon our know-how
so that collectively, we can learn and grow
as an organisation.
Knowledge sharing is an integral part of
a learning organisation that DSO strives to
be. We believe that if we want to become an
organisation of distinction, we must share our
knowledge and learning, as well as leverage
and build upon each other's expertise. In addition
to inculcating this core value in our staff
through various internal communication platforms,
we operationalise it as part of our work process.
Technical courses and seminars are conducted
regularly for our staff so that they can better
understand the key systems and enabling technologies
critical to DSOs R&D activities and
stay abreast of the technological advancements
in these areas. Furthermore, our staff can also
tap on a rich knowledge bank where DSOs
ideas and innovation are shared among our staff.
INtegrity
We uphold the highest standards of professionalism,
fairness and impartiality in our work, without
compromising integrity, acceptable standards
of probity or safety. We have the courage of
our convictions to stand up for what is right,
say what we mean and deliver what we promise.
As a trusted partner to our customers, we
safeguard all proprietary information and carry
out our duties with great integrity. In addition,
upholding the intellectual property rights of
our collaboration partners is also of paramount
concern for DSO.
Excellence
We take pride in our work carried out according
to the highest standards of professionalism.
Excellence is the hallmark of our people, process,
products and services.
Embedded in this value are qualities such as
personal mastery, quality, pride and commitment
in one's work. DSOs sterling record of
winning awards in every Defence Technology
Prize since the awards inception in 1989,
attests to our valuable contributions to the
Ministry and the Singapore Armed Forces.

Teamwork
We harness the full potential of our staff
and exploit synergies by working together as
a team with a shared vision and by working towards
a common goal to ensure collective learning,
economy of effort and greater job satisfaction.
At DSO, R&D is undertaken through project
teams and hence a culture of teamwork is critical
to the overall performance of DSO as an organisation. To
give DSO what we need to stake our claim as
a premier R&D organisation, we strive to
efficiently and effectively harness our collective
energy and align our efforts so that DSO remains
vibrant, dynamic and innovative.
Innovativeness
We strive to be resourceful, creative and
innovative in our work to create additional
value for our customers.
DSOs recipe for growing our intellectual
property comprises three key ingredients
to seed ideas, to provide financial and organisational
support for these ideas to germinate into original
and novel innovations, and to recognise efforts
for innovation.
The DSO InnoFair, for instance, is an internal
exhibition held biennially to showcase innovative
projects from the various research groups in
DSO. As a forum for exchange, the event aims
to seed novel ideas, explore new concepts and
encourage greater collaboration among our fellow
scientists and engineers. We also organise technology
exhibitions to foster closer ties with our partners.
Customer Focus
We seek to understand the concerns, needs
and requirements of our customers, add value
to them, strive to exceed their expectations,
and so delight them.
At DSO, our customers are our top priority.
As a key member of Singapores defence
ecosystem, we play a key role in supporting
the SAF in its transformation efforts. Open
communication channels in the form of dialogue
sessions, forums, visits and seminars, are established
to help our researchers better understand our
customers operational requirements. Participation
in SAF exercises and staff attachments further
reinforces our understanding of the SAFs
needs.
