Internship Programmes Design Considerations for Audio displays
Discipline: Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Psychology
Project Description: The abundance of small, cheap and powerful audio technologies and the need to disseminate new types of information with sounds is leading to a demand for audio displays (Speech, tones and icons etc) in phones, PDAs, automobile, and many other consumer products in the near future. However, most product designer working on these products do not have sufficient knowledge on design considerations for audio displays.
This project aims to understand the different types of audio displays. The human perception of these audio displays? What type of audio displays is most appropriate for various applications (System monitoring, Situational awareness, Attention cueing etc)?
The challenge of the project: 1. To do an extensive literature review on auditory displays 2. To think of potential areas where audio displays can be applied to 3. To develop prototypes, if needed after potential areas have been identified 4. To carry out experimentation for usability studies if required
Pre-requisite: Keen interest in Human Factors Engineering |
