Internship Programmes Human Factors Considerations in C2 Systems
Discipline: Human Factors Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Design), Computer Engineering
Project Description: Explore innovation user interface (UI) design concepts for the development of user-friendly UI for Command and Control (C2) systems that can support collaboration and decision making tasks intuitively and effectively.
The intern will conduct research on UI design concepts for Command and Control systems. He/She can explore UI design concepts in real-time strategy games and help to identify useful UI designs that can support C2 tasks. There will also be opportunities for the intern to participate in the prototyping and evaluation of the UI concepts generated. In this project, the intern will be able to learn about Human Factors Considerations for C2 systems and how these considerations can be used to generate user-friendly UI design concepts to support collaboration and decision making.
The challenge of the project: The project hopes to understand user requirements/needs and translate these requirements/needs into innovative UI design concepts that can be used to support decision making and collaboration tasks in C2 systems. C2 systems are highly complex and are integrated with other systems. As such, it will be a challenge to develop C2 systems that can display large amounts of information clearly in a manner that can allow commanders to make sense of situations easily.
Pre-requisite: Interest in user interface design, Human Factors (HF) Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or applied psychology. Preferably equipped with skills in Flash, Actionscript, Illustrator, HF experiment design and evaluation. |
