Internship Programmes

Hyperspectral Discrimination of Soil Samples for Trafficability Assessment in Humanitarian Operations

Discipline: EEE, Pattern Recognition

The project aims to:
Develop robust algorithms for discriminating the various types of soil found in our environment. Successful candidate will undertake a literature review of soil spectral features; be involved in the measurement of soil reflectance profiles in the visible and near-infrared regime; correlating these with other physical properties of the soils (which will be provided); develop discrimination algorithms using software similar to Mathlab and evaluate their performance for outdoor field data.

The challenge of the project:
Data reduction techniques to handle the large amount of data.

Pre-requisite:
Interest in algorithm development, basic programming skill in MATLAB
