Internship Programmes 2008

Implementation of Hydrogen Detonation in Open Foam

Discipline : Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics

Project Description :
The project aims to implement hydrogen detonation/combustion in the open source code Open Foam.  The results will be compared to experimental data on the detonation velocity of Hydrogen, values obtained from Chapman Jouget theory and simulations obtained from available Finite Difference Code.

The challenge of the project: Discover some physics in modeling Hydrogen Detonation. Another aim is to gain expertise in using Open Foam to model problems, for example Hydrogen Detonation. Open source CFD code Open Foam has replaced expensive commercial CFD code, in some applications recently. Industrial uses are in shipbuilding, automobiles, aerospace engineering, metal welding etc.

Pre-requisite :
Interest in algorithm development, basic programming skill in MATLAB or any other language
