DSO is Co-Organiser for the First Ever Singapore Amazing Machine Competition!
Date of Release : 14 May 2008

For those whom have never heard or seen a Rube Goldberg machine, you don't want to miss the inaugural Singapore Amazing Machine Competition (SAMC)!

Jointly organised by DSO, Singapore Science Centre (SSC) and National University High School of Mathematics and Science, SAMC is a premier competition opened to all budding scientists and engineers at upper primary and lower secondary school levels.

To be held at SSC on 4 July 2008, more than 30 teams will be using their imagination and resourcefulness to construct an elaborate machine that uses the most number of complex steps to complete a simple everyday task - squeezing toothpaste onto a toothbrush. The team that creates the most complicated machine that successfully completes the task wins!

For all its participants, SAMC looks set to be a science adventure with a dash of creativity and fun. DSO is thrilled to be one of the co-organisers, as part of our continuous outreach efforts to inspire young minds and cultivate their passion for science.

Mr Tan Soo Kee, Deputy Director of People Division, says, "Thinking out of the box is an important emphasis not only in DSO's R&D culture, but also in our school outreach programmes, as we seek new ways to engage the future generation and immerse them in the intriguing world of technology and innovation."
