DSO is committed to grooming the next generation of defence scientists and engineers, and harnessing their potential to push the boundaries of research for defence applications.

The SpOnsorship for Aspiring Researchers (SOAR) is an award scheme for high calibre undergraduates in computing, engineering, engineering science, physics, and mathematics, who want to grow their passion for research into a career in defence R&D.

SOAR recipients will get to interact with our research scientists and engineers, and gain access to our leading-edge facilities. You’ll be assigned a mentor that will guide and coach you through your learning journey here.

You’ll also gain hands-on experience of life as a researcher, with the opportunity to undergo your internship here, as well as work with us during your term vacations.

You’ll also receive special invitations to our corporate events, as we warmly welcome you into the DSO community.

Eligibility

• Singapore citizen
• Tenable for 2nd, 3rd and/or 4th year of study
• Open to fields of study relevant to DSO's needs, namely computing, engineering, engineering science, physics, and mathematics
• Preference will be given to students under the URECA and UROP Programmes
• Have obtained at least a CAP/GPA of 4.2 during application
• Award shall be continuous until graduation

Award Terms

• Each award quantum covers all tuition and compulsory fees, with an annual allowance of up $8,400

Sponsorship Period

• 2nd, 3rd and/or 4th year of university studies
  

Bond

• Undergraduate (Local and Overseas)
  - 1 year bond for 1 year of sponsorship
  
  
• Postgraduate (Local)
  - 1 year bond for 1 year of sponsorship
  
  
• Postgraduate (Overseas)
  - 1.5 years bond for 1 year of sponsorship
