Developing Passive Sensor Tracking & Targeting by Mimicking How Barn Owls Pinpoint Prey in the Dark
 

Project Description :
The barn owl can catch a mouse readily in darkness, solely by relying on acoustic cues. Given the dynamic nature of the situation, it’s amazing how the barn owl can localise the mouse prey so accurately. This project requires the intern to do literature research on the hearing mechanisms of the barn owl as well as the brain processing of the owl to localise a prey.

The intern will then develop a simulation model to try to mimic the acoustic localization capability of the barn owl. The intern then develops the model in Matlab or any other programming language to simulate and study the various aspects of this passive tracking mechanism.
