Project Description : A significant limitation of traditional template-based tracking is their inability to handle out-of-plane rotation, which can cause total/ partial self-occlusion of the target. It was demonstrated that in our trial in which the ship’s target is lost when the orientation of ship is changed with respect to camera.
In this study, we will modify the standard forward correlation procedure by augmenting it with a backward correlation step that groups pixels with similar image velocities. We hope the backward correlation performs motion segmentation on the pixels around the target to automatically update the model as it changes over time so that the drift can be avoided.
