Category A: Paper Planes


Each team should consist of TWO (2) to THREE (3) members.
Design and fold paper planes to achieve the longest, farthest or most unique flight.
Open to: Primary Schools
Championship Prize
Cash prize of $400 per team
Category B: Unpowered Gliders



Each team should consist of TWO (2) to FIVE (5) members.
Category B will be open to a maximum number of 150 Registered Teams.
Design and build small unpowered bungee-launched gliders to achieve the farthest and most precise flight.
Open to: Secondary / Integrated Programme (IP) Schools

Category C: Radio Control Flight



Category C1: Radio Control Flight – Fixed Wing
Each team should consist of TWO (2) to FIVE (5) members.
Design and build a small remote-controlled fixed-wing air platform to navigate an obstacle course.
Open to: Secondary Schools / IP Schools / Junior Colleges / Institute of Technical Education
Participants of Category C1 Challenge are also eligible to register for either C2 or C3 challenge, but not both.
Category C2: FPV Flight – Novice
Each team should consist of ONE (1) to TWO (2) members.
Bring, or design and build a ducted (shielded propeller) first-person view (FPV) drone to compete in an obstacle course.
Open to: All Schools
Participants of Category C2 Challenge are not eligible to participate in Category C3 Challenge.
Category C3: FPV Flight – Advanced
Each team should consist of ONE (1) member.
Bring, or design and build a first-person view (FPV) drone to compete in an obstacle course.
Open to: All Schools
Participants of Category C3 Challenge are not eligible to participate in Category C2 Challenge.

Category C1: Cash prize of $1,200 per team
Category C2: Cash prize of $180 per team
Category C3: Cash prize of $600 per team
[ENHANCED] Category D: Semi-Autonomous / Autonomous



Category D1: Semi-Autonomous
Each team should consist of TWO (2) to FIVE (5) members.
Design and build a system of UP TO THREE (3) small semi-autonomous small air platforms, operated using intuitive controls via wearable devices, to perform a multitude of tasks.
Open to: Polytechnics / Universities
Category D2: Autonomous
Each team should consist of TWO (2) to FIVE (5) members.
Design and build a system of at least TWO (2) autonomous small air platforms to collaboratively transport payloads through an indoor obstacle course.

Championship Prize
Category D1: Cash prize of $4,000 per team
Category D2: Cash prize of $10,000 per team
[ENHANCED] Category E - Swarm

Each team should consist of TWO (2) to TEN (10) member.
Bring, or design and build a swarm of TEN (10) to TWENTY-FIVE (25) drones to compete in an obstacle course.

Rules & Regulations
• There is no limit to the number of entries from each school or organisation, except Category B, whereby the limit is 8 teams per school.
• Each member can participate in one team per category.
• Teams are allowed to take part in categories higher than their educational standard, i.e. Primary school students are allowed to take part in Categories B, C, D or E. Secondary school students are allowed to take part in Categories C, D or E.
• Participants of Category C1 Challenge are also eligible to register for either C2 or C3 challenge but not both.
• Participants of Category C2 Challenge are not eligible to participate in Category C3 Challenge and vice versa.
• Participants of Category D1 Challenge are also eligible to register Category D2 and vice versa.
• No member or the family member of the organising committee may participate.
• The organisers reserve the right to amend the rules and regulations. However, all teams will be informed of such changes 4 weeks prior to the start of the competition.
• The judges’ decisions are final. Judges’ discussions are strictly confidential. The organising party reserves the right to revoke any prizes awarded should there be evidence of regulation violation.
• Registration fees are refunded only if a letter of notification to withdraw is received before the registration deadline 18 February 2022.
• Participants registered under a school must be a full-time student at the point of competition.
• Home-schooled participants and teams consisting of students from different schools should register as “Independent teams”.
• Participants will be notified upon successful registration within two weeks of the registration deadline. The decision made by the SAFMC organising committee is final, and is subject to the availability of the competition schedule and logistics support.
• The collection, use and disclosure of the teams’ personal data by or on behalf of the organisers will be used to facilitate the processing of the teams’ registration or any matters in relation to the Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition (SAFMC). The consent provided for the collection, use and disclosure of the team’s personal data will remain valid until the team member withdraws his/her consent in writing to the organisers.
• Participants agree to be contacted by or on behalf of the organisers for SAFMC related events and matters, and any photo or video taken at the SAFMC related events could be used by the organisers for publicity purpose.
• All prizes won by the teams will be issued to their respective team manager. The team manager must be of age 18 years and above.
